Kote-e is the Japanese art of plaster painting and is painted on the walls of old houses, often with motifs of lucky charms. This time we are making trolls using trowels. At the start we collect shells, pebbles and seaweed to make eyes, hair, nose, beard etc. The plaster takes a few days to dry, so it should be transported home horizontally. We have shoe boxes that can be used for transportation.

Option 1: Approximately two hours

Participants meet at the start time in Folkeparken and collect pebbles, shells, seaweed, etc. together. Then everyone gathers in Kvitnesgården and makes trolls.

Option 2: Approximately 30 min

Drop-in. Collect materials (pebbles, shells, seaweed, etc.) in advance of the event and place them on the work table. She also holds workshops throughout Japan for children and adults, introducing them to the joy of making with plaster materials.

Cyanotype with Ken Kitano

Age group: 12 years and up
Duration: 3-4 hours, starts at 12 noon, registration in advance
Language: English

NOTE! It is characterized by the use of iron ions to produce a dark blue color and was often referred to as “blueprints” and was used to reproduce drawings. Different shades of blue depend on the exposure time and the way the light-sensitive material is applied. The material reacts only to UV radiation and can be done either in sunlight or with the help of a UV lamp.

Photogram

A photograph that does not use a camera or lens. An object; for example a flower, is placed on photographic paper or photosensitive material and exposed to UV rays. This creates a negative, where the paper exposed to UV rays turns blue, while the area under the flower turns white. You can digitally invert this image to get a positive motif where the light turns white instead of the shadow This Sunday you can walk around and look for motifs for your photogram. Maybe you find that you look at your surroundings differently when you are looking for a motif?

Photographic Artist Ken Kitano

Ken Kitano is a Japanese photographer who has held solo exhibitions and participated in various group exhibitions domestically in Japan and internationally in countries such as Belgium, China, France, Germany, Sweden, Taiwan, and the United States.

In 2004, he won the Society of Photography Award, and in 2007, he won the Newcomer’s Award from the Photographic Society of Japan.

In 2027 Kitano will display his works at the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum.

Gathering Light

Gathering Light is a photography project by the artist Ken Kitano (b. 1968, Japan).
