On Sunday September 8th, nearly 200 members of the public found their way to the Open Day at Perspektivet Straumen farm in connection with the Cultural Heritage Days 2024.
«Heritage of Routes, Networks and Connections»
The theme for the Cultural Remembrance Days this year is “Tracks, networks and connections”, and we had good collaborators on the team for the implementation. Society for the Preservation of Ancient Norwegian Monuments (Fortidsminneforeningen) had a stand where they provided information about the old houses on the yard, but also about their own activities. In addition, the Gáisi language center contributed with senna grass binding and lasso throwing in the yard.
Architect Erling Steenstrup told the audience about the houses and held two rounds of lectures about the history behind Straumen Gård. A total of 7 representatives from Kvaløysletta Husflidslag were present and facilitated nailing and jump rope tying in reperbahn technique.
Free event and Shuttle bus
The museum director, Marianne A. Olsen, also gave tours of the main building throughout the day, and we offered various traditional activities such as stilts, pea bag throwing, sack races and boat building workshops. A kiosk with coffe, ice cream and home made cakes were open. Due to parking challenges, the public made use of the free shuttle bus to and from the car park at Hella.
Thanks
Thanks to all partners and we thank Kulturminnedagene Min and Tromsø kommune for supporting the event and welcome you back to the Cultural Remembrance Days at Straumen Gård next year!
