Tromsø has been a multicultural city ever since its foundation in 1794. Norwegians, Samis, Kvens, Russian Pomors, visiting merchants and seamen from Great Britain and the continent met together here.
Since the 1980s, the wave of new immigration has also influenced the city. Today, more than 110 nationalities are represented in the municipality.
In the exhibition, the visitors can take pleasure in the beautiful, strange, ugly, expensive and everyday objects from the storehouse’s repositories. The museum houses a unique collection of “Russian objects”, items that Russian sailing ships brought with them to the city in connection with the Pomor Trade in the 19th century.
